Circa 1870s / USN / Short Sword / Naval boarding style / Size is 25 6/8 inches overall length / 20 1/8 inch blade “Scaled” brass handle / Cross guard stamped U.S.N. 1832 (model M-1832) Most likely this piece was from a small batch privately purchased for a specific sailing vessel for sailors on board / While nearly identical to the M1870 boarding short sword and closely related to the U.S Civil War M-1832 this specimen, lacks certain specifications… such as a “Fuller” or groove that would have run down the middle of the blade / Brass handles in conjunction with “long rifle” bayonet blades of the era were typically used to produce this style weapon / Circa 1870’s (Possibly for the Great Lakes) Awesome one of a kind piece!!!
(Three pictures shown of darker green buildup under the leather washer “as found” that has been removed to make the markings legible)
