M1831 French Artillery Short Sword & Scabbard / Civil War Era
It features a 19.25 inch long gladius style blade with an overall length of 25.25 inches and a width of 1.75 inches. The brass handle has markings “Shown in pictures" on the cross guard (approval stamps most likely) The blade has an amazing patina with some darker tones scattered about and a double-edged cutting surface / French arsenal markings Chatellerault 1933 & Pihet Freves are located on the blade / This is a hard to find government arsenal made piece, opposed to being made by an independent contractor / 27 rings on the handle with signs of previous cleaning / These short swords where used by artillerymen in the U.S. Civil War by both U.S. & C.S.A forces / Pictures provided for overall condition and quality / Please inquire with any questions / Thanks for looking
